- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred or CDA equivalent.
- Must meet DHS Rule 3 Teacher qualifications.
- Previous experience working with young children in a childcare center, preschool, or educational setting is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of early childhood development principles, theories, and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, families, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with young children and supporting their growth and development.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or will be certified in the first 90 days)

Position Summary:
The Childcare Food Service Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food service operations within The Oaks Childcare and Preschool Center, ensuring the provision of nutritious meals and snacks to children in accordance with state regulations and center policies. The Food Service Manager manages inventory and purchasing and maintains compliance with health and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Menu Planning and Nutrition:
- Develop weekly menus that meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences.
- Ensure menus include a variety of healthy and appealing meals and snacks for children of different ages.
- Stay informed about current nutrition guidelines and trends to continuously improve menu offerings.
- Food Preparation and Production:
- Handling all food preparation and production activities, ensuring adherence to standardized recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
- Be knowledgeable in how to properly handle food, preparation techniques, and sanitation practices.
- Monitor food storage, handling, and cooking temperatures to prevent contamination and ensure food safety.
Inventory Management and Purchasing:
- Maintain accurate records of food inventory levels, including perishable and non-perishable items.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to order food and supplies as needed, while optimizing cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies to minimize waste and ensure adequate stock levels.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Develop and manage the food service budget, including forecasting expenses, tracking spending, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Implement cost-effective purchasing strategies, such as bulk ordering or negotiating supplier contracts, to maximize budget efficiency.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including state licensing requirements and USDA Child Nutrition Program guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to food service operations, including menus, production records, and sanitation logs.
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and audits as required.
Professionalism:
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to center policies. Help to maintain positive relationships between teachers, children and yourself.
Menu Participation and Special Events:
- Coordinate with the center Director and staff to accommodate special dietary needs or food-related events, such as celebrations or special Center events.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in food service, preferably in a childcare or educational setting.
- Knowledge of nutrition principles, dietary guidelines, and food safety regulations.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including menu planning software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office suite.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and coordination for food preparation tasks.
